Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Interview

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Interview
Hi all! Yesterday was Remembrance Day, and Vancouver Co-op Radio's Beautiful Minds program was exploring Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a very common psychiatric diagnosis many of our veterans and troops struggle with. The diagnosis of PTSD originated through war (in WWI many soldiers had a similar cluster of symptoms which was then known as "shell shock"). Since then, we have continued to get more perspective on how PTSD can affect military, but also the general population.

I was lucky enough to be interviewed about my personal experience with PTSD as a mental health professional. When I agreed to the interview, I was worried to "go public" about a very personal process I was ashamed of for a long time. However, I sincerely believe that in order for us to be more gentle with ourselves and heal, we have to be open and honest about our struggles. I hope that my interview has decreased some of the stigma of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, especially for professionals in the healthcare field.
