Oh Alanis Morissette. Her album Jagged Little Pill was the soundtrack of so many girls becoming women. She's had ups and downs, but somehow always remained authentic and true to herself (at least it seems that way).

I recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone
I recommend walking around naked in your living room
Swallow it down (what a jagged little pill)

Wait until the dust settles

You live you learn
You love you learn
You cry you learn
You lose you learn
You bleed you learn
You scream you learn

Somebody’s daughter, a friend
In the night in the dark in the cold

Drowning in words so sweet
Mild is the water
Caught as a bird once free

I don’t mind

Here's Billie's Site. It's pretty cool.

Stripped to the waist
We fall into the river
Cover your eyes
So you don't know the secret
I've been trying to hide
We held our breath
To see our names are written
On the wreck of '86
That was the year
I knew the panic was over

Yes since we found out
Since we found out
That anything could happen
Anything could happen

Oooooo
When she was just a girl
She expected the world
But it flew away from her reach
So she ran away in her sleep

Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Every time she closed her eyes

An innocence that you cannot get back
The pain is real
You can't erase it
Sooner or later you have to face it down
Down
You have to face it down

You are loved

Do you keep your thoughts inside your head
Will you regret the things you never said
You have a voice
You have to use it
You have a choice
Don't let them shut you down
Down
Don't let them shut you down

You are loved

#12: Wilson Phillips- Hold On

1) It's insanely catchy and has inspiring lyrics
2) It reminds us of the last scene in Bridesmaids and...
3) The styles in this 90s video are back in.
We hope you are able to crank this up and sing along wherever you are. Listen on iTunes.

I know there's pain
Why do lock yourself up in these chains?
No one can change your life except for you
Don't ever let anyone step all over you
Just open your heart and your mind
Is it really fair to feel this way inside?

Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day

#13: Alessia Cara- Scars to Your Beautiful

Alessia Cara's song, Scars to Your Beautiful reminds us that there are many different ways to feel beautiful inside and out. Listen on iTunes.

She just wants to be
She goes unnoticed, she knows no limits
She craves attention, she praises an image
She prays to be sculpted by the sculptor
Oh, beautiful she don't see the light that's shining
Deeper than the eyes can find it
Maybe we have made her blind

So she tries to cover up her pain and cut her woes away
'Cause cover girls don't cry after their face is made
But there's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark
You should know you're beautiful just the way you are
And you don't have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful
Oh-oh, oh-oh
And you don't have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful

squint your eyes and look closer
I'm not between you and your ambition
I am a poster girl with no poster
I am thirty-two flavours and then some
and I'm beyond your peripheral vision
so you might want to turn your head
cause someday you're going to get hungry
and eat most of the words you just said

#15: Fleetwood Mac- Don't Stop

Have you ever listened to the lyrics in Don't Stop by Fleetwood Mac? They were singing about mindfulness before it was cool. Or maybe they were the ones who made it cool... Either way, Listen on iTunes or click the video link above. Oh, and here's a great article about Stevie Nicks at Rolling Stone.

If you wake up and don't want to smile,
If it takes just a little while,
Open your eyes and look at the day,
You'll see things in a different way.

Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow,
Don't stop, it'll soon be here,
It'll be, better than before,
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone.

#16: Dixie Chicks- Landslide

Seeing as last week's soundtrack was Stevie Nicks, this week we're featuring the song Landslide, but sung by the Dixie Chicks. This song is all about relationships and life changes. Listen on iTunes.

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'Til the landslide brought it down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older, too

#17: MS MR- Painted

Ms Mr ((pronounced Miz Mister) are a New York-based American duo, consisting of vocalist Lizzy Plapinger and producer Max Hershenow. Their song "Painted" is not only upbeat and catchy, the inspiring lyrics are all about coming back from being "broken". Listen on iTunes.

What did you think would happen...
When you put me in unnatural space
A cruel dark box where a shadow took my place

But if you never break, you'll never know
It's all you need to fight a blow
Now put yourself back together again
Burning bridges from the inside-out
One day I'll be stronger than my own doubt
Stronger than my own doubt

#18: Beatles- Let it Be

This is an oldie but a goodie about acceptance in the face of suffering. The Beatles Let it Be can help calm you down and remember to stop struggling and go with the flow. Listen on iTunes.

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken-hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be

#19: Bon Iver- Holocene

The song Holocene by Bon Iver is not only beautiful, but it's accompanied by one of the most stirringly emotional music videos I've seen. Listen on iTunes.

Someway, baby, it's part of me, apart from me
You're laying waste to Halloween
You fucked it friend, it's on its head, it struck the street
You're in Milwaukee, off your feet

And at once I knew I was not magnificent
Strayed above the highway aisle
Jagged vacance, thick with ice
And I could see for miles, miles, miles

#20: Bomba Estere- Soy Yo

Bomba Estereo is a Columbian band that was voted "Best New Band in The World" in 2010... and since then they've been getting even better. This song/video "Soy Yo" made me happy in so many ways, especially after the election results. Soy Yo roughly translates into "I Am" (so google tells us) and this video is about a little girl fully owning her amazingness - listen on iTunes.

The lyrics below have been translated, just to give you an idea of the spirit of the song. It's pretty great.

I failed, I found myself, I lived it and
I went against the stream and I got lost
I fell down, stood up, rose up I learnt
When you fall harder, the deeper the beat

I keep dancing and writing my lyrics.
I keep singing with the doors open
Going through all these lands and not have to travel so far to find the answer

And don't you worry if they don't approve, when they criticize you just say
It's me
It's me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me

I keep on walking, keep on laughing
I do whatever I want and die trying
Nobody cares what I'm doing, the only thing that matters is what's on the inside
I like to be on the sand, bathing out in the sea without reason, without problem
Sitting down doing nothing, looking far away, and be relaxed
