What experience or background do you bring to your counselling and supervision practice that is uniquely yours?

I’ve always been told that I should write a book. People hear my stories and are in awe of the variety of experiences that I’ve been in. It’s been my life endeavor to submerge myself into different cultures, workplaces, relationships, and connections that may push me out of my comfort zone. Given this, I feel that it is unique to me as it not only shows my intrigue in others but the dedication that I have to understand where my clients come from and how I can connect and support them to the best of my ability.

What is your favourite thing about working closely with people every day?

I am constantly amazed by my clients! The way they identify with themselves, with others and their environment; it’s why I do this work. The way resilience can grow through pain, grief, and darkness is an outstanding transformation to witness. The beauty that can happen within a counselling room is magic! I feel incredibly honoured for clients in trusting and having faith in me to allow me to hear their stories.

What is a personal challenge that you have overcome in your own life?

I’ve struggled with anxiety all my life. At times it has been completely debilitating and others it is non-existent. I have thought a lot about “what ifs” when it comes to my anxiety, but at the end of the day I learned that I needed to change my relationship with it. I tuned it to what my anxiety was trying to teach me and how I could move through the process.

What have you learned from your work?

I’ve learned to constantly “check in with myself”; acknowledge my own awareness with interactions, beliefs, environments, and various situations. What/how do I feel about this? A lot of the time, the answers are there it just takes some time (or a different perspective) to get there.
