Benefits & Direct Billing
Probably Yes
For those new to having benefits, benefits are an insurance product, provided by an insurer (like Manulife, Desjardins, Green Shield, Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Canada Life, and others). Employers often help employees access benefits, but anyone can purchase benefits from an insurer. Some insurers allow practices like ours to direct bill so clients don’t pay out of pocket. Every plan is unique so please check yours for coverage and limits.
Direct billing is submitted as a courtesy. Coverage is determined by your insurance provider and is not guaranteed.
Do you have benefits? If yes, then our services are likely covered by your plan.
We provide counselling/ psychotherapy services by Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC), Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC), and Registered Social Workers (RSW).
Here are lists of therapist of each type currently accepting new clients
Can we directly bill your insurance benefits directly? Often we can!
Direct billing means that we bill your insurance company and are paid directly, so you don’t have to pay out of pocket. You can confirm we can direct bill your insurer by checking out this list. Please be sure to check your plan details for which services and designations are covered prior to booking your session.
Most insurers allow counselling practices to direct bill. To set this up, please email admin@peak-resilience.com the name of your insurer, policy and membership/certificate ID.
Please note, if you are working with a Practicum Counsellor or Pre-Licensed Counsellor – we cannot direct bill. You are welcome to submit your receipts for reimbursement but we cannot guarantee it will be covered. If you are unsure, please discuss with your insurance provider,
Check out this handy guide to know which insurers we work with.
Please note that although some providers may cover RCC/CCC and RSW services, but do not allow us to directly bill on client’s behalf – this means you pay out of pocket and submit your receipt for reimbursement.
Pricing and Fees

Benefits often cover a large portion or 100% of the total fee for a session. If you are in financial difficulty, please ask your counsellor/psychotherapist about sliding scale or consider booking with a practicum counsellor for lower cost counselling/psychotherapy.
Benefits often cover a fixed amount of money, which runs out at the end of the calendar year. In the new year, that amount usually resets. This might mean that some times of year are busier than others.
Any amount not covered by your insurance will need to be paid for out of pocket. This means if your benefits are declined, you are still required to provide payment.
Please Note: Insurance providers do not reimburse or direct bill for missed appointments or late cancellations. Any fees associated with missed or cancelled sessions are the client’s responsibility and must be paid out of pocket.
We recommend booking multiple sessions in advance to ensure you get the most value out of your investment (and your preferred time slot). The most common sessions booked are 50 minutes, in person or virtual. You can always change/move/cancel sessions up to 48h in advance. If you hate booking sessions online, please call 604 682 PEAK (7325) to book over the phone.
What if my benefits don’t cover RCC/CCC services?
If your benefits plan does not cover RCC/CCC services, please send them this advocacy letter to try and get covered.
We look forward to helping you!
We work with 45+ insurers and can directly bill most of them on your behalf!
